In a world where artistry is being supplanted by automation, where quantity is prized over quality, and mastery is being replaced by mechanization, Espíritu Humano exists to represent the traditional and hand-made spirits of México. Throughout the country, we work with producers who care for their land and their legacy. Their spirits an extension of themselves, their families, and their communities. They are real spirits, made by real humans.




Carlos Martinez, Brand Manager. Born and raised in Oaxaca’s Central Valleys, Carlos has been part of the 5 Sentidos since Year 1. Originally a young mezcal enthusiast who wrote his thesis about the effects of the denomination of origin on the mezcal industry, Carlos joined the El Destilado (R.I.P.) team in 2016, and eventually hustled his way up to Bar Manager. He became full-time Brand Manager for Cinco Sentidos in 2021, and is also the co-founder of Oaxaca’s Malcriado.
Diana Hernandez, Administrator. Also hailing from Oaxaca, Diana is the logistical glue behind Espiritu Humano. Thanks to her behind-the-scenes effort, Espíritu Humano brands can be found and savored in four continents.
Oumaya Lalouani, Brand Educator. Passionate about beverages and a forever student of Mexican spirits, Maya represents the Espíritu Humano portfolio in the Washington D.C. – Baltimore area. Via seminars, master classes, staff trainings and cocktail creation, Maya shares her knowledge and enthusiasm with gusto and grace.
Jason Paul Cox, Founder. Drawn to Oaxaca City for the food and culture, Jason has been residing in Oaxaca since 2014. He co-founded El Destilado (2015-2024), a contemporary Mexican restaurant and 5 Sentidos, a no-intervention destilado de agave brand that works with revered mezcaleros. He is the Founder of Espíritu Humano.
